Feeling drained and sluggish for many seems to be the result of bad eating habits, sleep deprivation, and stress. Instead of reaching for that cup of coffee first thing in the morning, which will only give you a temporary boost, a simple solution to get quick energy might just be drinking a glass of water.

Dehydration affects cognitive abilities because your brain actually shrinks in volume, which can cause headaches, fatigue, sluggishness, moodiness, and even confusion. Simply drinking a glass of chilled water (since cold water absorbs faster than water that is room temperature) can reduced these effects within 20 minutes. Drinking 16 ounces of water can raise your metabolic rate as much as 30 percentage, boosting your energy, a much healthier alternative than caffeine- which can have a negative effect on your blood pressure and heart rate.

Drinking water is extremely important because our bodies are made up of about 11 gallons of water. H2O affects your health in a major way.

  • Your blood is 85% water
  • Your muscles are 80% water
  • Your brain is 75% water
  • Your bones are 25% water
