Image result for statin drugs

Here on the blog, we are always sharing great tips to improve your health and over-all wellness in a natural way. We understand that everyone’s situation is different and sometimes medication is needed. We hope that when you are prescribed medicine for your issue, you are given proper information on the total benefits, risks, and side effects. Unfortunately, many doctors are not able to spend a lot of time with their patients and at the end of their visit, the patient is left with a prescription and a lot of questions. Certain medications come with severe side effects, such as death.

This is the case for statin medications.

Statins are a class of drugs often prescribed by doctors to help lower cholesterol levels in the blood. By lowering the levels, they help prevent heart attacks and stroke. But there has been controversy over these drugs for many years because of the adverse effects on the patient taking them, or sometimes don’t work much at all.

Statins have been proven to shut down the production of a very important nutrient inside the body, co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10). When CoQ10 is depleted, LDL cholesterol becomes oxidized, which sets off a down-ward spiral of events where LDL cholesterol actually begins to make holes in the arterial wall. This causes major inflammation which increases your risk of getting a heart attack or stroke, the very thing the statin drug is supposed to prevent.

If you are going to be taking a statin drug, you need to talk to your doctor about CoQ10 supplementation. It is really a life and death matter; if you have low levels of CoQ10, it is predicted you could die within 6 months. Below is a list of dangerous problems that can arise if you are CoQ10 deficient:

  • Fatal cardiomyopathy
  • Heart attack
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Exhaustion
  • Cancer
  • Myopathy
  • Depression
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver disease
  • Sudden memory loss or amnesia

If you are currently taking a statin medication, it is important you ask your primary care physician to have your CoQ10 levels checked. Although modern medicine has been tremendously beneficial in healthcare, we must be careful to resort to using drugs as our first choice. We believe food is medicine and a great place to start!
